SOCIAL GATHERINGS: COORDINATOR NEEDED Carol would like very much to share her workload, and one way to help would be for someone to volunteer as the coordinator of the monthly social gathering at an area restaurant. It is very possible that we will soon have four or five favorite eating establishments around the metroplex, preferably "healthy", and rotate among them. Our goal is to make these accessible to everyone by meeting in Ft. Worth, the Mid-Cities, Arlington, North Dallas and Dallas. The coordinator would not have to locate restaurants - just be responsible for taking reservations and contacting the restaurant to assure seating. Call Carol and volunteer to be our coordinator. Also, call if you have suggestions for "healthy" restaurants, or just a favorite place you want us to try. What are our meetings like? We're still sharing our stories, along with favorite passages and poems. The meetings have been small but wonderfully uplifting. The following are some affirmations that we all agreed upon and that center our group. Spirit comes from the Latin "spirare", to breathe. Spirit is what animates and quickens us, what makes us alive. Spirituality is the practice of staying consciously connected with what makes us alive; with our own selves, with one another, and with the Great Other. We will listen with empathy. Empathy isn't agreement. It's understanding where people are starting from and seeing the potential. It involves listening at a very deep level so that one builds a relationship of trust and respect. It's a spiritual process of seeking God in the other person. In The Different Drum, Scott Peck writes "Paradoxically then, a group becomes healing & converting only after its members have learned to stop trying to heal and convert. Community is a safe place precisely because no one is attempting to heal or convert you, to fix you, to change you. Instead, the members accept you as you are. You are free to be you. And being so free, you are free to discard defenses, masks, disguises; free to seek your own psychological and spiritual health; free to become your whole and holy self." Come join us as we journey together to become our whole and holy selves! Quotes are from Sacred
Circles by Robin Deen Carnes and Sally Craig.
