Why Nasal Cleansing?
Nasal Cleansing, a "Kriyas" or cleansing practices, are an element of yoga and enhance the benefits of the "Gentle R & R" sessions, as well as improves overall health.* The practice of nasal cleansing and detoxification is good for any one to do regularly. It is especially helpful if you have chronic sinus problems, stuffy nose, or allergies. It will clean pollens, viruses, and pollutants out of the nostrils and thus help the body stay free from infection. It also helps drain the sinuses and keep mucus from building up. This will help you breathe more easily thru the nose. Note from Suzanna, our Gentle R & R Coordinator, says, "On days when my nose is stuffed up or during my seasonal allergy season, doing this has helped prevent me from getting colds which lead to sinus infections. It also helps me feel better."
In the Hatha-Yoga scripture called “Hatha-Yoga Pradipika,” the study and practice of Kriyas come actually before the practice of Asanas (yoga postures) and Pranayama (breathing). Purifying the body has the added benefit of enhancing your Asana and Pranayama practice. It is as if you are cleaning up your house first before re-decorating it..."
