Our group's "Gentle R & R" mind/body sessions are held periodically to explore techniques leading toward relaxation and healing. These sessions are specifically designed for CFIDS/FM support group members and are open to both men and women. They are led or coordinated by Suzanna, one of our members, who understands the varied limitations of our illness. She uses these methods in her own healing process. These self-help relaxation routines feature gentle stretching/yoga, various breathing exercises and guided meditation. Some are done while seated in a chair while other sessions will be done on the floor using your own exercise mat. Sessions are often held on the same day of our regular support group meetings. Sometimes, completely separate sessions are scheduled, where we can spend more time together reaching a blissful state of relaxation. The sessions are listed on the website when possible but normally announced via a post on our yahoo announcement group (CFS-FM-DFW) and RSVP's are taken. You will find information about joining the CFS-FM-DFW group, go to our eGroups page. When possible, the class schedule will also be posted online.
In our monthly support group meetings, we usually gather to learn new or alternative ways to improve our health from health care professionals. The Gentle R & R Sessions aim to do that using the confines of our own mind/body space. Stretching, deeper breathing, and conscious relaxation all help to reduce tension/stress and ease painful muscles. These practices will also stimulate circulation, enhance the immune system, and provide a mild form of detoxification. If you would like to lead a session exploring a technique you have discovered, please coordinate with Suzanna, our Gentle R & R coordinator at GentleRandR (at) dfwcids (dot) com.
Come join us to learn and practice techniques which can enhance your healing program. Handouts providing stretching tips and audio/video recommendations, given at class, can help you start your own home program. Tax-deductible Support Group/"Gentle R & R" donations are welcome for each session or support group meeting. Sessions are held in one of the top floor conference rooms at Harris HEB Hospital, in the Edwards Cancer Center. The Cancer Center is the northernmost building of the hospital complex (closest to the freeway).
