HOMEMADE CLEANERS FOR THOSE WITH MCS

If you suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, these ingredients
and recipes will be all you need to make the switch to non-toxic alternatives.
Air Freshener
-
Dab vanilla on light bulbs with a cotton ball.
-
Boil citrus peel in water.
-
Simmer cinnamon and cloves.
-
Use baking soda to remove odors in carpets.
-
Set out a bowl of vinegar overnight to remove odors.

Bathtub Stains
-
Make a paste of hydrogen peroxide and cream of tartar.
-
Rub with a toothbrush and rinse thoroughly.

Brass Cleaner
-
Mix lemon juice and baking soda.
-
Make a paste the consistency of toothpaste.
-
Rub onto brass with a soft cloth and rinse with water.

Copper Polish
-
Rub with a mixture of lemon juice and salt.

Rinse well.

Drain Opener
-
Pour 1/4 cup baking soda down the drain, then follow with 1/2 cup of vinegar.

Mix equal parts vinegar, salt and baking soda, let foam for 15 minutes,
then flush with boiling water.

Fabric Softener
-
Add 1/4 cup baking soda or borax to wash cycle.

Add 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar to wash cycle for softening and
eliminating cling.

Floor Cleaner
-
Clean and shine no wax floors by adding 1/4 cup of pre-soak laundry powder
and 1 cup of vinegar to mop water

Furniture Polish
-
Add 1/2 cup lemon juice to 1 cup of vegetable or olive oil.

Mix 1 part distilled white vinegar to 3 parts olive oil.

Mix 1 tablespoon lemon oil in 1 pint of mineral oil.

Glass Cleaner
-
Use plain club soda.

Mix 1 quart water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar.

Mildew Remover
-
Make a paste of vinegar and salt and rub area with sponge.

Mirrors
-
Dampen a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol and wipe entire surface.

Oven Cleaner
-
Make a paste from baking soda and water, scrubbing stains with steel wool.

Add salt if necessary, except for self-cleaning ovens.

Scouring Powder
-
Apply baking soda to damp sponge, rinse with water.

Mix 1 2/3 cups baking soda, 1/2 cup of liquid soap, 2 tbsp distilled white
vinegar and 1/2 cup water.

Silver Polish
-
Clean with toothpaste and warm water, rub dry.

Rub with lemon juice and salt.

Spray Starch
-
Fill a spray bottle with two pints of cold water and mix in 2 tablespoons
of cornstarch.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Sprinkle baking soda into the toilet bowl.

Add vinegar.

Scour with toilet brush.

Make a paste of borax and lemon juice.

Window Cleaner

Mix 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water.

Wood Cleaner
-
Mix 2 tbsp vegetable oil, 4 tbsp white vinegar, and 1 qt warm water.

Apply with a soft clean, dry with another cloth.

Three cups olive oil to one cup vinegar.
