    Mortgage Emergency Assistance

    Emergency mortgage payments are available in many states during times of dire financial need. Housing Counseling Agencies can tell you if this program exists in your area.     Free immunizations are offered to children at county health offices. Call your county or state public-health office to find a clinic near you or contact:

    Dental and Vision Care

    Free or low-cost Dental and Vision care is available through many dental and optometry schools to people willing to be treated by supervised students. To locate dental schools contact:

    Financial Help

    Need help paying those out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare or Medicaid? The Health Care Financing Administration offers four programs with varying levels of help, based on your situation. There are different exemption plans, each with its own restrictions, but if you qualify, it can add up to an extra $546 to your income each year. Contact Medicare Information hotline 800-MEDICARE and ask about the Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries plan, the Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries plan and the Qualified Individuals Plan. For more information or you can contact your state, county, or local medical assistance office.

    Low-Cost Supplements

    In addition to the discount companies already mentioned in previous newsletters (Shaklee Products at cost, Mary, 817-481-4056; Vitamin Discount Connection, 1-800-848-2990; NEEDS, 1-800-634-1380; and, Health Net, 1-888-787-7536) several others have come to our attention. A London-based firm, Quality Health, Inc., carries an extensive listing of vitamins and supplements, as well as "smart drugs" often not available in the US.
