| Donations Ideas

If you can't volunteer your time or energy, another way you can help our group is by donations. There are a couple different ways to do this:
Shop through iGive.
This is a fantastic way to donate by just buying what you already DO and without having to even write any checks to the group! The 500+ stores involved with the iGive program vary from JCPenneys to Proflowers to Sharper Image, Target, and CircuitCity. Up to 26% is donated to our group—at no extra or invisible cost to YOU—from every purchase made. For more details about how the iGive program works in different situations, go here.
Send a check to us directly! Make it out to the CFIDS & FMS Support Group of DFW. Mail it to:

If you have other questions about this, email me or call Carol at 817.283.1115. We are a 501c organization so all donations are tax-deductible as charitable donations.
If you wish to donate to research specifically, you can also do one of the following:
Matching Fundraiser Renewed For 2005!
(Support the National CFIDS Foundation)
Once again, the National CFIDS Foundation, Inc. has been honored with matching funding for all donations throughout the year 2005! The matching donor has been in touch with the progress of our research endeavors and has agreed to extend the matching fundraiser because of the "profound importance" seen in our funding directions.
All donations go directly to research endeavors so that we may find a cause and treatment for the heartbreaking disease so trivially referred to as "chronic fatigue syndrome." No percentage is ever held back for any operating costs. In addition, a percentage of everyone's annual membership dues goes toward our primary goal of research. Having a matching fundraiser means that every donation will be matched no matter what amount. In other words, a donation of $25.00 becomes $50.00, a $50.00 donation is doubled to $100.00 and a $500.00 donation becomes $1,000! All donations are tax deductable as charitable donations.
We are very grateful to our matching donor who understands the importance of the work being funded.

Natelson: The Matching Funds Program by JH Bearman
Feb 28th: This program has now ended. Thank you for your support and a special thanks to JH Bearman for his generous program.
This short-term program is to end on Feb 27, 2005 (my understanding). You can search on Co-Cure's archives for Feb 1st week to find the original post. From the original post by J.H. Bearman:
"...I challenge every patient out there to give to Natelson's new study on proteomics in spinal fluid of CFS patients versus controls. I am copying below the information on how to do this.
I will match 1/3 of each donation up to total 3000 dollars for 3 weeks...."
I received the following two messages from Dr. Benjamin Natelson of UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School recently:
"Currently there are no biological markers for CFS/FM and the illness can only be diagnosed by following a set of clinical criteria. Because of this, CFS/FM is probably a heterogeneous illness comprised of a number of different subgroups. Our own data point to the brain as a cause of CFS for some patients, and we have collected spinal fluid from nearly 50 patients.
"There is a new technology called proteomics which can identify proteins in any body fluid—even if the protein has never been seen before. This is an incredibly powerful tool, and it has never been applied to spinal fluid in patients with CFS/FM. However, it is costly to gain access to the proteomics technology and this is where we need your help.
"We had applied to the NIH for a small amount of money to move this work along, but our application did not receive a high enough priority for funding. If you and other patients would be willing to contribute to our doing this research, we would be very grateful and hopeful of discovering a biomarker that could be used to make diagnosis more precise.
"Thanks for your continued interest in our research.

"Mr Bearman:
Thx for your note. We have actually been seeking funding to do a proteomics study to try to identify biomarkers in the spinal fluid. Any contributions that would move that work ahead would be really gratefully accepted.
"There is a place to designate the purpose and recipient. Thanks in advance for your interest and potential support. Let me know if you have any problems accessing the Foundation web pages.
