Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Jean has developed a program of strenuous exercise anyone can do:

Beating around the bush
Jumping to conclusions
Climbing the walls
Dragging your heels
Pushing your luck
Making mountains out of molehills
Wading through paperwork
Running around in circles
Pulling out all the stops
Adding fuel to the fire
Opening a can of worms
Putting your foot in your mouth
Going over the edge
Picking up the pieces

In Memory: Dr. Edmund Tyska
January 1934 - March 2000

On March 10, Dr. Edmund Tyska passed away at his home. He had recently informed his patients of his retirement. For years, he was one of a limited number of doctors in this area who recognized CFIDS as a serious illness and provided medical treatment to patients. Our condolences to his family, friends and patients.

Funds for CFIDS Physician Education!
January 1934 - March 2000

Curriculum to train medical professionals to recognize, diagnosis and treat CFIDS has been developed by the CFIDS Association of America and the Illinois Area Health Education Center. On February 9, Kim Kenney of the CAA met with representatives of the CDC and the Illinois AHEC to discuss its funding and implementation.

The CDC strongly commended the group's work and agreed to fully fund a grant to test and implement the curriculum through a train-the-trainer series of workshops. Since education of healthcare providers has long been a top priority for many, this is very welcome news!

Thanks to the CFIDS Association of America for this information. You can reach them at 704 365-2343 or by email at cfids@cfids.org.

Documentary Film on CFIDS

After three years, Kim Snyder's film "I Remember Me" is almost complete. A recent screening at the Museum of Modern Art gave 40 members of the film industry the opportunity to view the film, raising awareness about CFS.

The initial feedback was very positive. Most attendees expressed shock at the magnitude of CFIDS as a major public health problem. Most agreed that the scenes involving an individual who has been bedridden for more than two years were the most compelling.

Kim plans to put the final touches on the film (contingent on funding), and submit it to several film festivals with the hope of wider distribution. She also hopes to launch a campaign to distribute the film for educational purposes.

Active in the film industry, Kim was the Associate Producer of the Oscar winning short film Trevor in 1994. When CFS struck, she was assisting in the production of Home For the Holidays, directed by Jodie Foster.
